Bargara 17-22/2/21

 Wednesday 17/2  We arrived at the very windy Bargara Beach caravan park around 1pm. Set up and had a small lunch. Greg and Wendy came for a catch up under the big tree opposite our site. Mark and I went for an afternoon beach walk ~2km along the foreshore.

We all had pre dinner drinks at Yvonne and Gunther's, when they'd set up.

Thursday 18.2.21  Early morning walk for me.

                                              Misting rain brought out a beautiful rainbow. 

                          The 6 of us went for a ride to Bundaberg Port in Burnett Heads ~25km

After lunch we drove into Bundy to do some shopping and stopped at the Hummock on the way back.                                                              Watched the rain coming in.

We all walked into Bargara for a pub dinner ~3.5kms. Finished the night with a cuppa under the tree.
Friday 19/2  I went for a 2km walk and after breakfast we rode towards Elliot Heads & back~20kms

Saturday 20/2  Drizzling rain and I didn't feel 100% so we had a few short rides during the day~20kms

Tonight we had dinner at a steak house in Bundy and met Luke's (Melissas partner) parents. The meals were huge. We then went to McDonalds for a coffee. That was a mistake. The McDonalds store was dirty and the service was very slow.

                                                 Sunday 21/2  6am wander to the beach
Went for a meander on the bike. Then Melissa and Luke brought the girls over for a few hours. 
                    We visited Tinaberries farm and had a beautiful soft serve strawberry ice cream. 
                                 The girls had a game of Jenga while we waited for our ice creams.


        Looked like a storm rolling in so we said our goodbyes and headed back to the van for a coffee. 



       We had dinner in the camp kitchen with Greg and Wendy followed by a cuppa at their van.

Monday 2/2  The weather is warm and very humid. Left the aircon on overnight to suck the moisture out of the air. At 6.30am it's already 26.5° c. Rode out to Burnett Heads ~20kms 



Coffee in the van before we packed up and headed for home at 9.30.

At home we'd had 4.5mm rain and the temp on the verandah was 41.7°c 😰 so on with the aircon again ☺

Our JJ van traveled 212km this trip and is booked in for an inspection tomorrow as its done 1046kms in total.

 Morning tea in the camp kitchen after we packed up at the dam. Then when we hit the Bruce Hwy we turned right.  Y&G turned left to head home. We drove across to Kalpowar, through the state forest. The road was picturesque, gravel/dirt, undulating and had a couple of steep ups and downs. The cruiser handled it well. As soon as we arrived a storm hit. Thunder, lightning and rain. We travelled 75kms today. And it rained and rained 1.30 to 5.30. We got a couple of short walks in between the storms.   We found something to amuse ourselves seeing we weren't going to be riding. More rain from 6.30 onwards so we've decided not to ride the rail trail as it isn't sealed and I'm a sook. Instead tomorrow we will head into Monto and end up somewhere near Mount Perry. Lots of art works to checkout on the way and we're going on a bunyip hunt.

Lake Monduran

 Today we're heading to Lake Monduran, via Bundaberg, about 20kms from Gin Gin. Woke to dark skies and sad news that Marks friend, Trevor, passed away. He had a brain tumour and was in a lot of pain so it's a blessing in disguise.  Luke's making a bike rack for the back of the van. Checking measurements.  Crossing the river at South Kolan. The road from here to Gin Gin is a new one for us. Our camp spot has green grass, a fire pit and amenities hidden in amongst the trees behind us.         Went for an afternoon walk to the dam wall.  Spillway Saturday 23.10.21 Morning walk before the heat to explore the area. Over 40 empty boat trailers at this boat ramp. 20+ at the second one. Drove in to Gin Gin to check the bakery was as good as we remembered ✔ The queue to get in was very long. Drove 4 kms west to see the Tirroan community bush garden. Lots of edibles and natives but it was getting too hot so we headed back to the vans for a cold drink. ...

31.7.21 Gootchie Creek Escape

 After a visit to the Imbil bakery for morning tea we headed off to Gootchie Creek, a 600 acre property. Minimal amenities but big open spaces.  Dinner around the camp fire.  1.8.21 Morning group walk around the property ~3.7kms Roast beef for dinner? The container doubles as a cinema screen for family movie nights and as a stage for bands to entertain the campers or a gathering place for cows. Cooked potatoes in the fire and ate around the camp fire again. 2.8.21 Morning solo walk~2km  Leisurely pack up and morning tea before we departed for home. We've decided to have short trips, closer to home, covid permitting.  This little trip, including Borumbah Deer Park, was 345 kms. The van is now booked in for its 10,000km service.
